A Semiquincentennial Partnership
and Legacy
America250MI was honored to partner with the Michigan Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in a landmark statewide effort to tell Michigan’s story as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary. With 55 Michigan DAR chapters across the state, the DAR played a vital role in strengthening local participation, supporting the formation of an America250MI Committee in Every County, passing an official resolution of support, and participating in Sharing the Spirit of America: The Public Reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Through this partnership, America250MI helped amplify the DAR’s statewide engagement by highlighting chapter contributions and connecting these efforts to the broader Michigan commemorative narrative. Guided by America250MI’s 5 Guiding Themes — American Experiment, We the People, Power of Place, Unfinished Revolutions, and Doing History — this work supported educational programming, public history initiatives, and commemorative events that honored the DAR’s enduring contributions to the American story and invited Michiganders to take part in a once-in-a-generation moment of reflection and civic engagement.
Deepening Partnerships
for the 250th:
The Patriots' Markers Project
Rooted in the DAR’s public mission to promote patriotism, preserve history, and educate communities, the Patriots’ Markers Project became an important part of Michigan’s Semiquincentennial legacy. Through this initiative, DAR chapters worked to raise appreciation among current and future generations for the sacrifices of Revolutionary War Patriots and their families, including those whose stories connect to Michigan’s communities and civic memory.
These markers stand as lasting sources of local pride and public remembrance. They honor the courage, conviction, and cooperation of the Patriots who helped found the nation, while also reminding future generations of the ongoing responsibilities of citizenship, unity, and shared purpose.
In partnership with America250MI and local DAR chapters, the research, dedication, and public history work behind the Patriots’ Markers Project became part of a larger statewide effort that included Committees in Every County, commemorative programming, and Sharing the Spirit of America readings. Together, these efforts helped make the sacrifices and stories of Revolutionary War Patriots more visible in classrooms, museums, public spaces, and civic life.
As this website becomes a legacy resource, America250MI recognizes the Michigan DAR as an essential partner in Michigan’s Semiquincentennial commemoration. Their enduring commitment to patriotism, history, education, and public service strengthened the statewide effort and helped create a living legacy for future generations.
America 250 Patriots Marker - Michigan Veterans' Memorial Park
On April 22, 2022, members of the DAR of Michigan proudly unveiled a Patriots Marker, honoring the heroes of the American Revolution in celebration of the Semiquincentennial—the 250th Anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence.
America 250 Patriots Marker - Hillsdale County Courthouse
The US 12 Heritage Trail Chapter of the DAR placed another America 250 Patriots Marker at Hillsdale County Courthouse in Hillsdale, honoring Revolutionary War Patriots in preparation of the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
